EASY Fortune Cookie Recipe
PREP TIME: 2 minutes
COOK TIME: 5 minutes
FREEZE TIME: 2 hours
SERVINGS: 12 Fortune Cookies
2 egg whites
½ cup flour
½ cup flour
¼ cup white sugar
1 tsp almond flavor
2 tbsp water
1 cup white melting chocolates
Gold, Silver, Black & White Sprinkles or Jimmies
Other Tools Needed:
Cookie sheet
Electric mixer
Small rounded bottom bowls
How To Make Fortune Cookies Step by Step
STEP ONE: Beat the Egg Whites
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Gather all of your ingredients. Prepare a cookie sheet by lightly greasing or using a silicone baking mat. With an electric mixer, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
STEP TWO: Whisk it Real Good
Next add flour, sugar and almond flavor and whisk together to fully combine.
STEP THREE: Add Water
Stir in the water until combined and the batter is smooth with no lumps.
STEP FOUR: Spoon Batter Onto Prepared Baking Sheet
Using a tablespoon measure, pour 2 cookies onto a lightly greased cookie sheet or silicone baking mat. Bake for 5 minutes at 400 F, the edges should be lightly browned. You only want to bake as many as you can quickly fold before they can cool. If you have friends or family helping you to fold you can bake a few more than the recommended two per bake.
STEP FIVE: Fold the Fortune Cookies
Remove fortune cookies from the oven and work quickly to place your paper fortunes across the middle of the cookie and then loosely fold in half, pinching the top and pressing the bottom of the fold into the rim of a small bowl or ramekin. (Avoid letting them cool too much or they will crack and break or not fold properly)
Place the cookies in a small bowl with a rounded bottom to cool to help them keep their shape.
STEP SIX: Dip in White Chocolate
Once fortune cookies are all baked and cooled, if desired, microwave the white chocolate melts per package directions. Dip half the fortune cookie into the melted chocolate and then pour Gold, Silver, Black & White Sprinkles or Jimmies onto the chocolate while it’s still warm. Place on wax paper until the chocolate has set.
Homemade Fortune Cookie Pro Tips:
- You can use parchment paper when baking but I don’t recommend it as it wrinkles and makes cookies come out irregular.
- If your centers are not cooking all the way, try using the back of the spoon to thin them out more, or reduce heat to 375 and cook for 8 minutes.
- If your chocolate needs to be thinned out, stir in about a tbsp of shortening.
