How to Make Thanksgiving Place Cards Step by Step
STEP 1: Label Place Cards With Names and Cut
Download and print out our FREE printable place cards in color onto Heavy Printable Cardstock and gather all of your supplies.
Before cutting any place cards it’s best to label all of the cards first with names using a Fine Tipped Felt Pen in Orange. If you need help keeping the names horizontally aligned you can use a ruler or a light pencil mark as a guide.
Place the sheet of place cards in a Straight Edge Paper Trimmer and remove all excess material including the outline. You should be down to just a square.
STEP 2: Mark the Midpoint
Take a ruler and find the midpoint of the place card on each side and make a light pencil mark on either side of the card. The card will be folded at this mid point but we need to know where it is so that we can cut out the 3D shape. We will start and end our cut at the midpoint.
STEP 3: Cut Out the 3D Shape
Place a card on a thick magazine or old catalog you don’t might getting cut up. Using an Exacto Knife start a smooth, deep cut that leaves most details out.
This single cut should start at the midpoint on the left side of the card and end on the midpoint on the right side (but don’t go all the way to the edge).
It’s really difficult to make any intricate cuts with an Exacto Knife so I would avoid this. While I was experimenting I found that those intricate cuts didn’t look as good (and took much longer). You just want the basic, outline and shape of the image to create the 3D look.
STEP 4: Erase Pencil Marks
Erase any of those small pencil marks you made to find the midpoint of the place card. Nobody will ever know!
STEP 4: Fold at the Midpoint
Fold the card in half which should make the 3D image pop out. If you have some extra time you can experiment with different shapes or cuts to get the 3D look you really like!
