With summer, vacations, car time, beach time, lake time and pool time in excess….you might want to try your hand at the art of hand lettering, brush lettering and calligraphy. It can add a new dimension to your planner decorating, bullet journaling, card making or paper craft projects.
Hand lettering is really relaxing and for me personally I can sit there for hours practicing and I don’t know where the time goes. It’s fun to practice and doodle on scratch paper to see what I can create. It’s my part of my self care regimen.
I highly recommend that you get your hands on a good hand lettering guidebook that’ll show you the basics step by step. We personally love best selling, 5 star rated Pretty Simple Lettering by Whitney Farnsworth. She really is THE BEST in this area…so learn from the best I say.
If you don’t already have a set of calligraphy or hand letting pens you can find them quite cheaply on Amazon. The set below has pretty much everything you need to get started in this super relaxing and creative relaxing hobby.
If you’re more interested in brush hand hand lettering (which is a tad different) check out this workbook which we also LOVE. You’ll also want to have a decent set of brush lettering capable pens/markers. I use colorful Zebra Mildliners to highlight and fill in my brush lettering in my planner. They have a fine and broad point on each pen which is kind of the minimum for getting started in hand/brush lettering. I use Mildliner pens because they don’t bleed through my planner pages and they add a pop of color.
