How to Make Hot Cocoa Bombs Step by Step
Add the orange candy melts to microwave safe dish and melt as directed on the package. There can be some variation from manufacturer to manufacturer on how you should melt them. Most have a microwave method while some others recommend a double boiler system. So, it’s best to do what the package says just to be safe. Stir the melted candies until there are no lumps. The candy should smooth, and spread around easily. If it feels stiff (like you can barely stir it) then you need to melt it a bit longer.
In half of the molds, spoon the orange melted candies into the dome mold. With the back of a spoon spread up the sides and create a thin layer of candy. This will be 1 half of the cocoa bomb shell. Make sure you cannot see the mold through the candy melts
Add the yellow candy melts to microwave safe dish and melt as directed on the package.
Stir the melted candies until there are no lumps. The candy should smooth, and spread around easily. If it feels stiff (like you can barely stir it) then you need to melt it a bit longer.
Add the melted orange candy melts to the three of the domes. Spread well with the back of a spoon. Make sure you cannot see the mold through the candy melts. Place the entire mold in the freezer for about 10 minutes so the candies will solidify. Once the candy melts are fully hardened remove the domes carefully and set aside.
Grab a frying pan and set it on the stove to the lowest possible heat setting. Place one half of the candy shell onto the pan. Melt slightly just to even out edges. Pull it up and place in a cupcake pan (cup side up) to cool.
Fill with two tablespoons hot chocolate cocoa mix, three pieces candy corn, and mini marshmallows.
Quickly heat another shell edge in the pan to even it out and place it on top of the half with the cocoa mix. Make sure to align the domes well. Repeat for the other remaining hot chocolate bombs.
Using some of your leftover melted candy (that are somewhat cool but still easy to handle) dab each piece of candy corn and adhere to the top of your completed hot cocoa bomb. Do not use hot candy melts or it will melt the shell. Use cooled but still soft candy melts. This will adhere the candy corns to the bomb nicely.
Keep in an airtight container out of direct, hot sunlight until ready to enjoy. You can keep these in the freezer up to a month if needed. I hope that you enjoyed learning how to make this Halloween hot cocoa bombs recipe. Please, use this as a guide and get creative with fillings, colors and decorations that you can put on top!
