I grew up in the country (south Texas to be exact) and I’m a country girl at heart! If you’ve ever lived in the country you know darn well it can be difficult to find everything you need at your finger tips! A certain amount of self-reliance and “making-do” with what you have on hand is required. From a young age I was taught to “make it” instead of “buy it”, “fix it” instead of “replace it” & “build it” instead of “hire it”. I grew up learning to bake, cook, sew & use power tools.
I met my husband Brian about 7 years ago and after we got married we purchased a little piece of heaven just outside of Snohomish, Washington. We named it Flying Chix Farm. Here we raise laying hens for eggs and grow heritage apples for hard cider and eating. During our painfully short growing season we are able to grow much of our own fruits & vegetables. We host a large antiques and vintage sale once a year called “Chix Pix”. Our farm is open to host events and classes for the community.
Long ago, in a land far, far away I was an engineer at Boeing in Everett, Washington. After 10 years in aerospace I completely burnt out. I hated my soul sucking job…and that’s me putting it as nicely as I can. All of my free time was spent working on our property, gardening and crafting. When I wasn’t at home I was thinking, wishing and planning for my at home time.
With the support of my amazing husband, I left the corporate world for good and dived in head first into this little tech venture I call ‘A Country Girl’s Life’. A few months ago I opened a new division called The Paper Hen where I sell instant, digital printable downloads.
I love arts, crafts, gardening and the country life but I REALLY love graphic design. It’s kind of like electronic/virtual crafting, drawing or artwork. You never have to be perfect the first time and you can modify your designs as much as you want. I love my job and I’m excited to get of bed (at the crack of 8am) to create awesome stuff for thousands and thousands of loyal monthly readers!
