Why we’re crazy about DIY!
I grew up in the country (south Texas to be exact) and I’m a country girl at heart! If you’ve ever lived in the country you know darn well it can be difficult to find everything you need at your finger tips! A certain amount of self-reliance and “making-do” with what you have on hand is required. From a young age I was taught to “make it” instead of “buy it”, “fix it” instead of “replace it” & “build it” instead of “hire it”. I grew up learning to bake, cook, sew & use power tools.
I met my husband Brian about 7 years ago and after we got married we purchased a little piece of heaven just outside of Snohomish, Washington. We named it Flying Chix Farm. Here we raise laying hens for eggs and grow heritage apples for cider and eating. We also have the burgeoning beginnings of a cut flower operation. During our painfully short growing season we are able to grow much of our own fruits & vegetables. We host a large antiques and vintage sale once a year called “Chix Pix”. Our farm is open to host events and classes for the community.
My dear husband has the patience of a saint whilst I derive new project after new project to take on at the farm. He’s a handy fella from rural Iowa and there’s nothing he won’t tackle with me. I’ll be sharing this crazy journey we’re taking on together…and maybe you’ll see that you’re…uh…not so crazy after all!
