Craft Room Ideas & Design Inspiration
Most craft rooms utilize a simple design that’s easy to duplicate in your own project space. It involves a centrally located work surface (with tons of storage space underneath) surrounded by tons of crafting storage around the outside of the room. I have this design in my crafting space & it works great for me. Here are some craft room designs you can play around with.
Arts and Craft Storage Ideas- Furniture
The good news is that craft room furniture is pretty darn inexpensive. You can add to your craft space slowly over time (or ask for storage pieces as birthday or Christmas gifts). Below is my favorite craft storage cabinet trio to start out with. While these come with a few color options I find white is best because it makes a room look lighter/brighter & bigger. White goes with pretty much any color scheme (just in case you change your mind down the road)!
My first craft room purchase was the SIDE BY SIDE CABINET. I loved the flexibility that the castor wheels provided (I reconfigure & re-arrange my craft room often). I later purchase two of the 7 DRAWER CABINETS and placed a work surface on top (which I highly recommend).

SHOP THIS LOOK: SWIVEL CRAFT TOWER
This Fully Rotating Craft Tower looks great and has lots of storage space for nearly every crafty type. I love the built in beg board and cork board and I can see even more storage being added with a few wire storage baskets being mounted to the blank lower side. This craft storage piece is highly rated and you can watch a video of it in action HERE.
Most craft rooms have a large center island workspace. It’s the multipurpose hub of your entire craft room. The best part is all the double duty storage space for fabric, storage bins and the trusty craft caddy. They come in different shapes and different sizes but these two are far and away my favorite.
SHOP THIS LOOK: HIDDEN CRAFT STORAGE ARMOIRE
This HIDDEN CRAFT STORAGE ARMOIRE is a must have for tucking away all your crafty bits. With four totally adjustable shelves and many cubic feet of storage space you’ll be able to store large items like fabric bolts, cutting machines, sewing machines and unsightly items. Don’t forget to grab some storage baskets and make use of the top of the cabinet too!
SHOP THIS LOOK: FOLD AND STORE CRAFT TABLE
What this FOLD AND STORE CRAFT TABLE lacks in storage space it will make up for in flexibility/portability. The work surface pops open to be a whopping 60″ x 36″ when fully deployed. When not in use it folds away compactly. This height adjustable table is fantastic for quilters, sewers and large craft projects. It’s an easy way to get a huge work surface rolled out in a jiffy.
Arts and Craft Storage Ideas & Inspiration
Okay let’s look at some TOTALLY inspired crafting spaces so you can see ALL the possibilities for your own space. Remember to think about some of the underutilized areas- like wall storage and the back of door storage. We have a storage ideas for those areas too!
As you’re perusing all these craft organization ideas and inspiration check out all the foundational items (larger furniture pieces) these ride or die crafters are using in their spaces. Take note if there is something that might work in your space.
Think about what you NEED to find solutions for…fabric? Sewing machine? Scrapbook paper? All of the above? What does your dream crafting space look like? What colors speak to you? How much space do you have available to utilize (in square footage terms).
All the inspo we’re showing can be pinned to your Pinterest board (just hover over the image to quickly add it to one of your boards for later viewing). Okay…let’s get inspired!
Wall Storage Ideas & Inspiration
Peg board is a SUPER flexible and provides quick & easy access to things that we use regularly like scissors, paint brushes, pens, tape….you name it. It also makes it easy to see when something is missing. It utilizes wall space which is TOTALLY underutilized in most crafting spaces. This metal pegboard kit is way sturdier than the standard cardboard-like, hard to mount pegboard you find in hardware stores. It comes with everything you need to instantly add wall storage in a few minutes with basic tools. It comes in quite a few color combinations. Keep in mind that you can spray paint ANYTHING to make it any color you want. If that is your plan, choose the white option.
This metal pegboard kit doesn’t have to be boring! Dress it up with inspirational art that matches your personal aesthetic. Make your craft space totally you by adding some Paper Lantern Lights or a Lightbox Marquee with inspirational quotes. Think about how you can make it a space you LOVE and want to spend time in.
The Wall Grid Panel is DEFINTELY having a moment in the crafting world! If you like clean, modern lines this might be a great option for you. There are tons of storage accessory options to really make this work for just about any type of crafter. Installation is a snap! This Wall Grid comes in quite a few color options but keep in mind that you can paint it any color you want with a few cans of spray paint! Placing these above a set of drawers maximizes any space.
Wall shelving should most definitely be on your shortlist! It’s another great way to store small items & make use of underutilized vertical storage. It’s also very visual (like the paint storage example above). You can quickly scan and find the crafty thing you’re looking for quickly (great for stamps & paper cutters). Vertical shelving is easy to install with basic tools. We found the same floating wall shelves in various lengths on Amazon. There are several colors available but you can customize yours with two coats of ordinary house paint.

It will fit almost anywhere to be tucked out of sight when not in use.

FLEXIBLE STORAGE CUBBIES are one of our favorite craft room storage ideas. You can use the cubby as is for storing 12 x 12 scrapbook paper, stacking fabric & storing yarn. With the rise of the cutting machine in the craft world we need cutting machine storage ideas! This cutting machine cart (measuring 12″ x 23″ inches) will perfectly fit just about any cutting machine out there on the market. You can fit multiple machines on it or use the lower shelves for additional storage of an easy press or vinyl storage. If you don’t like the color of the metal base you can spray paint it any color you like with enamel spray paint.
A spinning carousel (or lazy susan) is a cute way to get functional craft storage or display space for your prettiest craft items. Tiered trays are also another option (but very few are manufactured to spin).
Curtain rods make use of wall space & store things like wrapping paper, craft paper, ribbon & washi tape to name a few. Pay close attention to the diameter & length of the rod to make sure whatever you are storing will fit. If you only need a little space you could consider something like a paper towel holder.
Who can resist the urge to purchase EVERY beautiful roll of washi tape!?!? Well not me…which is why I have plenty of storage space for all my washi tape (like this cute little box that allows me to see everything & admire their beauty).
