How to Make Melted Snowman Cookies Step by Step
Prepare your sugar cookies according to the package directions. Mix until well incorporated and a dough forms. Feel free to substitute your favorite sugar cookie recipe if you have one. I like the premade sugar cookie mix because it saves saves money and time. You won’t have to purchase a lot of ingredients that might just sit on your shelves. Everything comes premeasured in the sugar cookie mix so there is time and possible errors saved too.
Using a cookie scoop, drop 1 inch balls on a parchment lined baking tray.
Place prepared cookies in the oven and bake per the package directions. It should take about 10-12 minutes and the edges of the cookies should be golden brown. Allow to fully cool before decorating.
While you are waiting for your cookies cool, whisk together the powdered sugar, karo clear syrup and water to make icing that will perfectly puddle like melted snow.
Carefully spoon the prepared icing on to your fully cooled sugar cookies so create the melted snow effect. The more irregular the icing looks the better!
Using a pair of clean kitchen scissors, snip off the back of each marshmallow at an angle. This will allow the snowman’s head to sit flat on the cookie and not roll off.
Dip the tip of a toothpick into black food coloring and make eyes and a mouth. Flip the toothpick around and dip the other end into orange food coloring and sketch out the nose.
Place the snowman marshmallow heads down into the icing to help it stay on the cookie. Make sure you complete this step before the icing has a chance to fully set and dry.
You can leave your melted snowman cookies as is or you can add a few embellishments like pretzel rods for arms and m&m’s for buttons. Again, you’ll want to do this before the icing has a chance to fully set and dry. This will help everything stick to the cookie and not fall off.
