How to Make a DIY Valentine’s Day Card Step by Step
STEP ONE- Print our FREE Valentine’s Day Card & Trim to Size
Print out our cute Valentines day cards onto Premium Glossy Card Stock (download is at the end of this tutorial). You can use a local print shop if you don’t have a printer at home for a small additional cost. We’ve placed two valentines on each 8.5 x 11 size paper and we trimmed them to size with a Straight Line Paper Cutter. You’ll want to completely remove the thin black outline we’ve provided as a guide…otherwise they won’t fit inside the fancy, 5 x 7 Inch Multicolored Envelopes.
I love this paper cutter because it’s folds up compactly when not in use and you can get nice looking, straight lines that scissors just don’t give you. You can also score super straight paper folds with it too which makes it really fun for LOTS of paper crafting projects. Okay, thank you for coming to my TED talk about paper cutters…LOL…let’s get back to the BEST printable valentine cards EVER!
STEP TWO- Ravel Up Your Balloon String
Cut about a 3 foot length of Red & White Bakers Twine and wind it around three fingers to make it tidy and easy to affix to the card. This length of string is for tying to the balloon after it has been blown up.
STEP THREE- Center the Balloon & String onto the Valentine
Next, you’ll place a Heart Shaped Latex Balloon onto the center of the valentine and lay the wound up length of string on top. Make sure you are using full size balloons not the mini heart balloons or thing will look a bit out of proportion relative to the size of the card (mine are listed as 10 inches on the package). You can easily find red, white and pink balloons in a combo pack on Amazon for this project.
STEP THREE- Affix with Washi Tape
Grab some Valentine Themed Washi Tape and tape down the bakers twine and the balloon to the valentine. For best results USE WASHI NOT TAPE! Not only is washi tape beautiful it is also low tac. So when your valentine goes to remove your small gift from the card it won’t damage the latex balloon which is a bit fragile.
STEP FOUR- Seal Your Valentine in a Fancy Envelope
There is a small space at the bottom to write a love note, funny puns or happy valentine’s day wishes. Tuck your fun printable valentine into a fancy 5 x 7 Inch Red Envelope (ours came from this really nice colorful multipack on Amazon)
STEP FIVE- Repeat with the Other Valentine Design
If you are making a lot of valentines for students, classmates or the classroom you may want to make both designs. The process is the same…just repeat with Pink Heart Shaped Latex Balloons and Pink & White Bakers Twine.
