Makes: 1 Dozen Ghost Pop Tarts (12 Servings)
Prep Time: 20 Minutes Cooking Time: 5-8 Minutes
Homemade Halloween Pop Tarts Ingredients:
Refrigerated Pre-Made Pie Crust
Strawberry Jelly (Use Your Favorite Flavor)
Pre-made Vanilla Cookie Icing
Chocolate Chips or Edible Googly Eyes
Ghost Cookie Cutter (you can use a pumpkin or any you like!)
Note: If you prefer to make homemade icing you can whisk together in a small bowl 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons milk & a few drops of vanilla until you get the desired consistency.
How to Make Homemade Air Fryer Pop Tarts Step by Step
Step 1: Cut Out Shapes With a Cookie Cutter
Roll out the refrigerated, premade pie crust and cut out ghosts with the cookie cutter. You’ll need two ghosts for each pop tart. We used a ghost cookie cutter but there’s no reason you couldn’t use ANY Halloween themed cookie cutter like a pumpkin, witch, cat or candy corn. You could get really creative with your pop tart shapes….think of all the cute Halloween pop tarts you could make!
Step 2: Add Fruit Jelly
Place about one teaspoon of strawberry jelly in the center of the dough. We used strawberry jelly but you can substitute with your favorite fruit jelly of choice. In the future I’m thinking it would be amazing to try this recipe with pepper jelly, Nutella or dark chocolate! So don’t be afraid to get creative!
Step 3: Crimp the Edges of the Pop Tart
Place a plain dough ghost on top of the jellied ghost. Using a fork, press down along each edge to seal the pop tart. This will keep the jelly from squeezing out while in the air fryer.
Step 4: Spray Each Ghost
Carefully spray each ghost with butter cooking spray. Place the pop tart ghosts in air fryer basket. Set the temperature to 360 degrees for 5-8 minutes (or until golden brown). Every air fryer is a little bit different so you may want to do a test run starting with one ghost and go from there. These little ghosts fry really quick so be sure to keep an eye on them!
Step 5: Get to Icing!
Remove your ghosts from the air fryer. Outline each ghost with cookie icing and then fill in. This “outline” of icing helps to keep the icing from running over the sides.
If you prefer to make homemade icing you can whisk together in a small bowl 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons milk & a few drops of vanilla until you get the desired consistency.
Step 6: Add Spooky Eyeballs
Add 3 chocolate chips to to each ghost so there is two eyes and a mouth. You can also use icing that has been dyed with black food coloring, sprinkles or edible googly eyes if you have them.
Keep any leftovers in the fridge in a sealed air tight container for up to 5 days. You can freeze for up to 4 months and pop them into the toaster. To reheat, thaw the frozen air fryer pop tarts. Place in the air fryer at 360 degrees for 3 minutes.
I hope you enjoyed learning how to make this simple and EASY last minute Halloween treat idea.
