How to Make Valentine Puppy Chow Mix
STEP ONE- Heat Up the Cake Mix
Gather all your ingredients and preheat your oven to 350°F. Spread our the strawberry cake mix on a cookie sheet. Bake for 5 minutes or until the internal temperature on a thermometer reaches at least 160°F (we heat treat the cake mix to avoid salmonella poisoning since there is flour
in the cake mix). Set aside and allow to cool to room temperature.
STEP TWO- Melt and Mix White Chocolate Chips With Chex Mix
Divide the Corn Chex Mix equally into 2 large bowls. In a separate small microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave. To do this place the white chocolate chips in the microwave and cook in 30 second intervals. Stir in between microwaving cycles until melted. Pour the white chocolate over one half of the Corn Chex Mix and fold in until the cereal is completely covered in white chocolate. If the chocolate feels too thick you can thin it and make it more workable by adding 1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil.
STEP THREE- Melt and Mix Red Candy Melts With Chex Mix
Grab the other half of the Corn Chex Mix sitting in the other large bowl. In another small microwave safe bowl, melt the red candy melts in the microwave. To do this place the red candy melts in the microwave and cook in 30 second increments. Stir in between microwaving cycles until melted. Pour the red candy melts over one half of the Corn Chex Mix and fold in until the cereal is completely covered in red chocolate. If the chocolate feels too thick you can thin it and make it more workable by adding 1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil.
STEP FOUR- Coat the White Chocolate Covered Chex Mix
In a gallon Ziplock bag combine 1/4 cup powdered sugar and 1/2 cup of the heat treated strawberry cake mix. Close and shake the bag until combined. Add all of the white chocolate covered Chex mix to the mixture. Shake and mix until all the Chex mix is coated with the mixture.
STEP FIVE- Coat the Red Candy Covered Chex Mix
In another gallon Ziploc combine 1/4 cup powdered sugar and 1/2 cup of the heat treated strawberry cake mix. Close and shake the bag until combined. Add all of the red candy melt covered Chex mix to the mixture. Shake and mix until all the cereal mixture is coated with the powdered sugar and cake mix.
STEP SIX- Mix Red & White Puppy Chow Together, Combine with M&Ms
Mix all of the puppy chow together along with the Valentine’s Day M&Ms and any other items you want to add (like pretzels, milk chocolate hearts or candy conversation hearts). You can drizzle the entire mixture with melted chocolate. Get creative and add the things you love or make this delicious treat more visually interesting.
