It’s the most magical time of year! Annnnnnd most of the time it’s the most expensive time of year! I’m on a mission this year to make more gifts than I buy. I’ve been searching on Pinterest and Google for great ideas but most of the DIY Christmas gifts I’ve seen are just not very meaningful.
I sat down to brainstorm some new DIY Christmas gift ideas that people will absolutely LOVE to receive. I have a huge list that I’m going to start sharing as soon as I can possibly create them!
This week I’m sharing one of the EASIEST DIY Christmas gifts on my list. You’ll only need a few things to create a beautiful, memorable gift. Even if you’re not a gardener with dry seeds ready to go, you can still create this little gift with seeds sold in bulk online (I’ll provide several options). So lets get started!

DIY Christmas Gift Seed Packet Gift Suppy List:
- Proterra Craft Paper Seed Envelopes
- Metallic Sharpie in Gold
- Hero Arts Shadow Ink in Cup o’Joe Brown
- Floral or a Christmas Themed Stamp of your choice
- Craft Paper Gift Tags
- Red & White Bakers Twine
- Clear Quilting Ruler
- Fresh Sprigs of Cedar, Pine, Thyme or Rosemary
- Wildflower Seed Mix in Bulk OR Bird & Butterfly Seed Mix in Bulk OR Sunflower Mix in Bulk OR seeds you’ve saved yourself.
1. Gather Your Supplies
You may already have much of the supply list on hand if you’re the crafty type. I used sunflower seeds I dried at home which I have in abundance thanks to a banner year for sunflowers. I did a post on “How to Dry Sunflowers for Crafting” so be sure to go over and check that out when you’re done here! If you want to give away sunflower seeds without all the hassle of gardening I recommend the sunflower mix sold in bulk. Some other options available are the wildflower seed mixture in bulk or the bird & butterfly seed mix in bulk.
2. Stamp Your Craft Paper Seed Envelopes
I really like the monochromatic color scheme between the craft paper seed envelopes and the cup o’ joe brown ink. The colors work well together for a natural hand made garden gift like this. You can use the clear quilting ruler to help align the stamp parallel to the edges of the seed envelope.
3. Label Seed Packet with Sharpie Metallic Gold Marker
This is probably the trickiest part of this DIY because not all of us have beautiful handwriting. I like to use a clear quilting ruler to align my writing with the bottom of the seed envelope. If you’re really concerned about the presentation you can always write on the back of the envelope which won’t be seen until the envelope is actually opened. Another option is to print out a separate label using your printer and affix it to the back or front.
I find it’s also helpful to note the year. Usually you write the year for planting….not the actual year the seed is harvested. It’s 2018 so you would write 2019. Seeds keep for 1-2 years so it’s good to know if they are still viable by having a date on the envelope.
If you have a large stamp collection you can experiment and see what looks best for your project.
4. Wrap Seed Packets w/Bakers Twine, Attach Tag & Greens
After you’ve filled your envelopes with seeds wrap the seed packets in bakers twine several times & tie one knot at the center. Attach the craft paper gift tag and tie a second knot to secure. Tuck one small sprig of greenery behind the bakers twine.
What a quick and easy little DIY Christmas craft! But don’t limit yourself there! What about giving away pumpkin seeds at your next spooky soiree? Just substitute a fall or Halloween themed Stamp!
Need an inexpensive Wedding party favor? Substitute a stamp appropriate for your wedding theme and fill your envelope with those wildflower seeds I mentioned earlier (sold in bulk online year round).
I hope you enjoyed this quick & easy DIY and I hope you feel encouraged to make more DIY Christmas gifts this year. It’s easy and rewarding! If you enjoyed this DIY be sure to head over to another DIY project I completed not too long ago: How to Make a Dried Hydrangea Wreath.
