How does a mood tracker work?
A mood tracker allows you to take a daily reading of your mood and record it in your planner or bullet journal. Most mood trackers last for a month and have a fun or creative element to the tracking process (ex. a color coded, coloring page). When the month is over you have a chance to step back and glean if your mood is improving or not improving.
Why should you track your mood?
Tracking your mood on a daily basis is the first step in taking charge of your mental health. It helps to identify how many good days and bad days you’re having and recognize potential triggers. While we can’t control what happens to us we can certainly control how we react. Tracking your mood is the start of learning to control our mood and reactions.
Does mood tracking work?
It may not work for everyone in every situation but it’s a great way to figure out if your mood is starting to rule your life. It can also help with discussions you are having with mental health professionals about your mental health. You can also use mood trackers to see if you are making progress towards your personal mental health goals.
How can I start to track my mood?
We think our free printable mood tracker will help you start tracking your mood on a daily basis. Here’s how it works….in the top left hand side you will see the word “mood” and just below that some boxes and circles.
The circles are for drawing in the types of moods you want to track as a part of this journal. Maybe a smiley face, sad face, angry face or sleepy face. You can track up to six moods. The boxes are for color coding each of those moods you want to track. You can use a colored pencil or highlighters to fill in each box. Below is an example that I did with my Zebra Glitter Highlighters.
There are 31 days in this mood tracker which are represented by photos hanging on a line with clothespins. At the end of each day you’ll decide on the mood that best characterized that day and color in a photo with the coordinating color. You could also label your photos with the day of the month like 1st, 2nd, 3rd. I forgot to do that for myself but I think I might do that next month.

How To Resize, Print & Punch These FREE Printable Mood Trackers:
These mood tracker inserts are A4 full 8.5 x 11 sheet but they can be resized to fit just about any planner (Happy Planner, Erin Condren, Filofax, Franklin, Arc etc) using THIS print resizing guide (this is also a pin on Pinterest that you can save for later to your planner boards for reference).
You’ll need to adjust your printout higher or lower using the print settings function on your computer. There should be a setting to adjust (by percentage) higher or lower within the print set up window. You may need to experiment a little bit but it is possible to shrink or enlarge these files easily during the printing process.
If you plan on putting these in your discbound Happy Planner you’ll want to punch them with the Mambi 9 Hole Punch. For Ring-Bound Planners (such as Filofax), I recommend using an adjustable 6-hole paper punch so that it can punch many different planner sizes/types. If you have a spiral bound planner like the Erin Condren then you’ll want to use this adjustable hole punch.
I also recommend that you print this on matte card stock if you think you might be moving this around in your planner with any regularity. The holes you will need to punch will degrade after repeated removals if you use standard printer paper.
