This Grinchy tutorial will show you how to make a Grinch ornament step by step with plenty of photos. Our finishing touches make this DIY Christmas ornament look professionally made!
Do I need a Cricut Machine?
Technically this is a Cricut Christmas craft ornament but if you don’t have a Cricut there is a way you can still make this Grinch ornament (if you have a little patience). Here’s how you can do it…
Simply take our FREE Grinch face SVG and print it onto clear sticker paper. From there you would cut out each facial feature and affix it to the ornament individually.
Affixing the entire face decal all at once does not work well…it won’t conform to the shape of the ornament without creasing and bubbling up in weird ways. You need to work with smaller pieces and press down each piece individually.
You may need to make some relief cuts to help it all lay down. Remove as much excess sticker paper as possible with scissors. All the other steps would be the same from there.
Okay…let’s see how this Grinch Christmas ornament turned out!

How to Make DIY Grinch Ornaments
STEP 1: Upload Grinch Face SVG and Cut Adhesive Vinyl
Download our FREE Grinch SVG from our FREE printables library. The link to our FREE printables library is located at the bottom of this page.
Gather up all of your supplies and warm up your Cricut Cutting Machine! Cut and weed away the unwanted Black Permanent Adhesive Vinyl areas away from the Grinch’s face SVG. You should be left with just the mouth, nose and eyes on the vinyl adhesive backing.
Cut a piece of Transfer Tape that will cover the entire Grinch face. Place the Transfer Tape on the Grinch face and run the Cricut Scraping Tool back and forth over the Grinch face so it will stick to the transfer tape. Pull the transfer tape away with the Grinch face attached.
STEP 2: Place Grinch Face on Clear Glass Bulb
Transfer the Grinch face SVG to the front of a Clear Christmas Ornament. Rub over the face with the Cricut Scraping Tool to transfer the face to the ornament. Make any small adjustments with a Cricut Weeding Tool.
STEP 3: Stuff Ornament with Bright Green Feathers
Split the Plastic Christmas Bulb in half and insert the Lime Green Feathers. Close the bulb back up. If you’re worried about the bulb spitting open you can add a small dab of super glue to the rim in two places and then close the bulb.
STEP 4: Glue Feather to the Top of the Bulb
Glue a fuzzy Lime Green Feather to the top of the bulb to simulate the little tuft of hair that the grinch has. Loop Sisal Twine OR Red | White Bakers Twine through the top of the ornament. Hang your Grinch ornament on the Christmas tree and enjoy! Don’t forget to download our FREE Grinch SVG from the printables library before you go today.
