A few weeks ago I put together one of my favorite Happy Planner inserts to date- The Happy Planner Health & Fitness Insert + Free Stickers which was a huge hit with my readers. Ever since I’ve been fielding lots of requests via email and my Facebook Group Totally Free Printables for something similar to the Happy Planner budget insert.
I spent a few weeks sketching out some budget printables and using them myself. I want to make sure that anything I create will work in practice. I formulated a personal budget and a family budget that captured all bills, expenses & income. I’m slowly working on putting all these sketches into a downloadable worksheet for anyone to use.
These printable budget planner pages are in US letter 8.5 x 11 sheet but they can be resized to fit just about any planner using THIS print resizing guide (this is also a pin on Pinterest that you can save for later to your planner boards for reference). You’ll need to adjust your print out higher or lower using the print settings function on your computer. There should be a setting to adjust (by percentage) higher or lower within the print set up window. You may need to experiment a little bit but it is possible to shrink or enlarge these files easily during the printing process.
My personal preference is to print these out full size and put them into this pretty binder I picked out with these super colorful tab dividers. For me, it’s just too much bulk to keep these worksheets in my Happy Planner on a long term record keeping basis. I also think it’s nice to look back on your accomplishments and PHYSICALLY see the progress you are making (which lends itself to a binder).
Here is how my binder and tab dividers look together if you think you might want to assemble our printables into a committed budget binder:
What do I print these Happy Planner budget printables on?
I use bright, heavy project paper that is 40 lb weight or heavier like THIS inexpensive option from HP to print my inserts on. This paper is heavier and similar to the thickness of the Happy Planner pages. Chances are that you will be removing some of these inserts from week to week in your planner and the hole punches will wear down after awhile. Using a heavier paper will help your inserts last longer.
If you are going to use the bill pay or payday stickers for your planner, desk calendar or wall calendar we recommend that you print them on this tested reliable printable sticker paper.
Should I laminate my budget inserts?
In some cases, I highly recommend that you do. If you laminate your insert pages then you can print them out once and use these ultra fine dry erase markers to fill out your laminated inserts. It saves money, time and it’s a greener option. Also, laminating helps these inserts last a lot longer because the punch holes won’t wear down as quickly due to moving.
I laminate my inserts using a super inexpensive Amazon Basics Laminator and 8.5 x 11 5mil laminating pouches. Most desktop, at home laminators will melt 3 or 5 mil laminating pouches. I prefer the thicker 5mil pouches because it makes all my planner inserts or planner page markers last a lot longer under repeated use.
How do I cut out these printable planner stickers?
You can cut these out the old fashioned way using some inexpensive and fun tools like a flexible square punch board, straight line cutter, or good ole fashioned scissors.
This post is very much a work in progress where I will be creating and posting free Happy Planner budget printables and stickers for the next few weeks. I will add them to this post as they are completed. By my count we’ll have around 13 worksheets to complete the entire Happy Planner buget insert. SO….let’s start whipping those finances into shape! Here is our first budget printable in our series!
Happy Planner Budget Printable #1 – Expense Tracker
This FREE printable expense tracker IS the foundation of good budgeting. You can start to figure out what your monthly expenses are by logging a full month of spending in this expense tracker. You’ll start to see areas where you can possibly trim back to save more. It’s an excellent exercise in financial health and the first step to creating a monthly budget.
You can use this in a pretty three ring binder or your Happy Planner to log all your expenses much like a check register (from back in the day when we wrote checks). There is an area to write in the date, amount, description of the expense and where the expense was charged to (here you would write checking, savings, credit card, debit card, cash etc). Here is an example of how I filled one out:

Happy Planner Budget Printable #2 – Bill Pay Stickers
These FREE Printable bill pay stickers are perfect for keeping track of bill due dates. I like to place these Happy Planner budget stickers on the day that they need to be paid using my bank’s online bill pay service. Usually that means they need to be in my bank’s system 5 business days in advance. If you’re more focused on your daily pages it might be best to put these stickers on the daily planner pages instead of the monthly planner pages. I’ve even included a spot to fill in the star when you know the bill has been paid!
I like to print out all my stickers on this glossy sticker paper (available in multiple quantities) because it prints true to color. You can also print them on this clear sticker paper (which has gloss and prints true to color). Clear stickers are easy to place anywhere on your planner without interfering with the functional layout of a planner (lines etc). I don’t recommend using any kind of matte sticker papers because they absorb more ink and make even the most colorful stickers look faded and pixelated.
Here’s how they look in my classic sized Happy Planner:

Happy Planner Budget Printable #4 – Debt Repayment Plan
If you’re trying to pay down debt like credit cards, car loans or student loans we think you’ll find this next free printable budget worksheet especially useful. You’ll be able to take your debt balance and formulate a plan to finally get it paid off. Whether it’s 3 months or 3 years you can formulate a plan that fits within your personal monthly budget. Here’s an example of how you might fill this out:

Happy Planner Budget Printable #5 – Monthly Budget Worksheets

Our free printable budget worksheets help you establish a “monthly budget” (prior to the month starting) and balance that budget with a “monthly actual” (the true money spent after the month has ended). Knowing these two things will allow you to fill out the “monthly balance” worksheet and figure out how much money is left over to pay off debt (using our “debt payoff plan from above”) or add to savings.
Happy Planner Budget Printable #6 – Password Tracker

I created this password tracker after seeing several requests for one in my Totally Free Printables Facebook Group. I also feel like I can use one myself because I noticed I’m too reliant on auto fill on my phone, tablet and desktop computer. Recently, I upgraded my iphone and through that process I lost all my auto fill password data! I couldn’t remember anything because it had been 4+ years since I had to put a password in! I added this to our budget inserts because I think it’s important to keep this data in a safe place in case something happens to you (god forbid) and you’re family needs to pick up where you left off with your accounts. I’ve created two different sizes to fit just about any planner.
All of these planner pages are in US letter 8.5 x 11 sheet but they can be resized to fit just about any planner (Happy Planner, Erin Condren, Filofax, Franklin, Arc etc) using THIS print resizing guide (this is also a pin on Pinterest that you can save for later to your planner boards for reference).
Happy Planner Budget Printable #7 – FREE Printable Savings Tracker

If you have a large expenditure on the horizon like a vacation, home improvement, car purchase, emergency fund or even Christmas spending you might want to try using a printable savings tracker. It’s a fun way to steadily save up for that large expenditure.
How does a savings tracker work? Decide how much money you need to save up. Take that number and divide by the number of objects on the printable savings tracker. Every time you save that amount you get to color in that object. When all the objects are filled in you’ve reached your savings goal. It’s a fun visual way to see your progress towards your goals.
Let’s try an example with our FREE printable savings tracker for Christmas below. Let’s say that you want to save up $500 for Christmas family gifts this year. Our savings tracker has 100 trees so each tree would be equal to $5. So every time you save $5 you color in a tree. When they are all colored in you have $500 ready for spending.
It’s easier than you may think to round up a small $500 fund like this…just skip the Starbucks stop for a few weeks, buy store brand products or nix eating out for a bit. You’ll be surprised at how that all adds up!
These printable savings track is US letter 8.5 x 11 sheet but they can be resized to fit just about any planner using THIS print resizing guide (this is also a pin on Pinterest that you can save for later to your planner boards for reference)
Happy Planner Budget Printable #8 – FREE Printable Cash Envelopes
If you’re in a serious budget crisis the cash envelope system is probably the most reliable way to ensure that you DON’T over spend in a given week, month or period. Most cash envelope adopters use a A6 sized cash envelope wallet to carry around the cash envelopes & the rest of their wallet contents.
You can use your Happy Planner as well with the cash envelope system. Just punch the free printable cash envelopes with a Happy Planner punch and add them to your rings.
How does the cash envelope system work?
The cash envelope system works by creating categorized cash envelopes (like groceries, travel, eating out, fun money as an example) that you can divide your monthly budget into. The cash allocated for each category is placed in the categorized envelope and when the money is gone…the budget has been spent for the month.
The cash envelope system is means of not using credit and debit cards for spending which can lead to overspending. When the cash is gone then the budget is spent for that period. The cash envelope system may not be for everyone as this means you have to carry a larger amount of cash around with you when you leave the house- but if you just take what you need and be careful you should be okay!
You might want to pair these free printable cash envelopes with our #2 printable below which is an expense tracker. Whenever you take something out of the envelope it makes sense to track the expenditure so you know where all your money is going every month.
Cash envelopes are really easy to make at home. You’ll need an Elmers purple glue stick, some scissors & a craft knife to get started.
Cut out the envelope around the outside and fold along the dashed lines. You’ll be gluing the small flap sides to the inside flap of the envelope to create a pocket. Then cut a slit for the envelope closure to fit into with your craft knife.
