I’ll let you know upfront that this article isn’t a a grand listing of places to buy cheap planner stickers….but I promise you that we will show you how to get your hands on cheapest planner stickers money can buy. Our post will show you the least expensive way to get your sticker fix!
It may surprise you to hear that the cheapest place to buy planner stickers is actually in your own home! It may require a little bit of DIY but if you LOVE planning & personalizing your planner…then I think you’ll enjoy the small amount of work involved (which equates to $AVINGS!). Stick with me here…I’m gonna explain!
Where to Buy Cheap Planner Stickers…
The least expensive option is purchasing specially created printable sticker files (made by independent graphic designers) & printing your own planner stickers at home with printable sticker paper. You’ll be able to find a wide variety of designs and colors that suit your taste, unique lifestyle and planning needs all for much less than commercially made stickers at the local craft store.
It’s also worth briefly noting here that you can also find really inexpensive, printable planner accessories such as planner inserts/expansions to help organize every aspect of your life and hobbies like…
DIYing your own planner stickers at home is truly the cheapest way to get your sticker fix (I can assure you as a life long planner junkie and sticker designer) that the economics are more favorable for a several reasons which I will detail below…
I’ve purchased MANY expensive sticker books over the years and what I’ve found is that I don’t end up using a big portion of the stickers because there is a lot of filler material that I just won’t ever be able to use included with every sticker book. If I use at least half of a sticker book then I consider it a win.
When you really think about it, this is a lot of wasted money and resources. Sticker books are $15-$20! When you pick out the printable stickers you want (and ONLY the stickers you want) and print them out on printable sticker paper you are only paying for the stickers you actually need and want….and NONE of the stickers you don’t. This is a HUGE cost savings that I wish I had known very early on.
Some new to planning folks think that sticker paper is specially made or expensive but it really isn’t. You can purchase high quality, professional looking stickers paper for cheap. My favorite 8.5 x 11 white glossy sticker paper is .78 cents a sheet at the time of writing this article. My preferred clear glossy sticker paper is running at $1.21 p/sheet.
As I mentioned earlier the average sticker book runs between $15-$20 and contains roughly 30 half sheets (or 15 full size 8.5 x 11 sticker sheets). If you were to purchase 15 sheets of my favorite, professional looking glossy white sticker paper it would run you $11.70 (shipping included). Here you can start to see where some cost savings can come from.
Most people balk at the cost of printer ink cartridges but you can purchase non-manufacturer ink cartridges from several highly rated Amazon sellers for a song. I’ve been using these non-OEM ink cartridges for years and they are literally just as good as the OEM for a fraction of the cost.
For example, I have a 10+ year old Cannon Pixma printer and if I was to buy just ONE new set of ink cartridges from Cannon directly it would cost about $45 (that’s for one full set of every color). These same exact cartridges are also made by a company selling on Amazon called EZ Ink and I can get THREE FULL SETS of ink for $16 including shipping. Wowsers…that’s a HUGE price difference.
There are several companies doing this on Amazon besides EZ Ink so just do a search for your cartridge numbers in the Amazon search box and you’ll most likely be able to find a non-OEM who is making inexpensive ink for your printer.
When you buy an already made sticker book you only get to use those stickers once. Then you have to buy another book and another book. When you purchase printable sticker files you own them forever and can print as many as you want for personal use. It’s a one time fee to OWN the files. This can save you tons of money over time.
There are some stickers I use over and over again like these printable 7 Day Habit Trackers which cost $1.50 for instant download of 65 stickers. I also use a ton of basic, box functional stickers for bringing attention to appointments, to-do lists & checklists. These are also pretty cheap for 12 pages of stickers I use pretty much everyday. Lots of sticker books are loaded with positive reinforcement/quote stickers but I prefer these inexpensive salty/sarcastic planner stickers for a dose of realism!
When you find a sticker designer you love, check to see if they have an All Access Pass to download everything in their shop for one low price (this is usually the best value if you enjoy their body of work).
I offer an All Access Pass in my printable sticker & accessory shop and you can download every digital product in my shop for one low price. You have 14 days to download everything you need for your planner. It also allows you to download anything we add to the shop over the 14 days. It’s a great way to get an entire years worth of printable planner stickers, planner inserts and accessories at one low, predictable cost.
If this all sounds good to you…you can check out my All Access Pass Over Here and use our reader only coupon code: LOVESTICKERS to get 20% off the all access pass!
What I want to drive home here is that you can purchase printable sticker files pretty cheap and use them over and over again…when you buy a sticker book you can only use that sticker book once and then you have to buy another. It will get expensive. Find printable sticker files you love, buy them once and enjoy them FOREVER!
Do you own your own business? Do you homeschool? Do you need a way to help care for a loved one with special needs? Track medications or symptoms? Well, the bad news is that there really isn’t anything commercially available to help you plan these things… BUT the good news is that all of these needs are being addressed by the independent graphic design planner community. You’ll be able to find planner stickers and planner inserts that address a myriad of unique problems & situations.
Now, this isn’t exactly a financial benefit per-se but I just want you to know that you don’t have to waste money shoe-horning commercially made planner products into something that will work for your unique situation. You can find a ton of unique stickers, trackers and planners that are designed to help with unique situations on sites like Etsy. I think you’ll be surprised to see all that is available to you for instant download!
This may not be obvious to some but you will save time and money when you download your planner stickers instantly and print at home. No more driving to the craft store to waste valuable time & money looking for that perfect planner sticker or accessory. When you purchase from independent design shops online, every download is available immediately after purchase…and you can find that exact thing you were looking for with one easy Etsy search in most cases. Who doesn’t love that kind of instant gratification?
Where can I download printable sticker files?
As I mentioned earlier we have a huge selection of printable planner stickers, planner inserts and accessories over in our shop The Paper Hen. But you can also find a large selection of independent sticker design shops on Etsy. How do you print planner stickers at home?
You’ll be delighted to hear that all you need is a printer, scissors and printable sticker paper to get started printing planner stickers at home. First off, double check on what kind of printer you have. Is it an inkjet? Or a laser printer? Most people have an inkjet at home but you’ll want to be absolutely sure because you have to use printable sticker paper made for your specific type of printer.
If you have an inkjet printer I highly recommend that you try this combo pack of white and clear glossy sticker paper. This paper is high quality, doesn’t jam and the glossy-ness makes your printed stickers look completely professional. If you’re new to planning you may not know if you prefer clear or white sticker paper so you’ll be able to try a little bit of each. White sticker paper will cover up areas of your planner that you may or may not want to be hidden. Clear allows lines and grids to be seen underneath the sticker. Each has it’s advantages…you should try both and see what you prefer.
If you have an laserjet printer you will have to purchase a paper that is specifically labeled for laserjet printers. You can check out this white glossy sticker paper or this clear glossy sticker paper.
When using glossy sticker paper you’ll have to adjust your print settings at print time. Select “high quality” and select a specialty paper like “glossy photo paper” so your printer will slow down and not smudge the ink during the printing process. Give your printouts at least ten minutes to dry before cutting them out by hand with scissors. Before you start cutting check a small area first to make sure that the stickers are dry.

How do you cut out planner stickers?
You can cut your stickers with plain ole scissors but if you think that you might start doing a lot of DIY planner stickers at home then you might want to make the small investment in a fingertip craft knife or gyro cutter. If you don’t have a steady hand there are some options like a circle punch, straight line paper cutter or a Cricut cutting machine. The Cricut is super handy if you have to cut out a large quantity of stickers and you want to up your sticker making game to PRO LEVEL.
