This EASY DIY Halloween decoration is made from many materials you can find at your local dollar store! It’s amazing because it looks store bought and not handmade! That’s a killer Halloween craft!
It’s going to sound crazy but this Dollar Tree Halloween Decor comes together for about $20! When you compare it with Gus the Pottery Barn ghost at $80…well it’s a no brainer! It’s such a cute DIY ghost decoration!

So like many of you I saw the viral, tiktok sherpa ghost DIY and I thought it was great but I wanted to put my own spin on it and share it with you. I’d like to think my version is an elevate, affordable take on the original.
Most EVERYTHING you need is at Dollar Tree. My advice, go now and gather all your supplies because LOTS of Halloween crafters swarm the dollar store for inexpensive Halloween supplies. Things sell out quickly and because the seasonal items are limited in quantity- they sell out early and quickly. I’ve been dollar tree crafting for years and I see it happen every year!
If you’re a regular reader, you know we love KILLER Halloween crafts. Last year we showed you how to make the Flying Bat Wall, Mickey from Main Street Halloween Pumpkin and the Mickey Mouse Ghost to name a few. So you probably won’t be surprised to see a new ghost appear.
There’s no reason why you couldn’t get the whole family involved with this Ghostly Halloween Craft- it’s great for adults, teens and kids. There are jobs that anyone can do on this cute little ghost!
Turn this into an EASY Cricut Halloween Craft!
Although you don’t need a Cricut Cutting Machine to make our sherpa ghost…you can turn this into an easy Cricut Halloween craft with our FREE Cricut Halloween cut files! We provide all the cut files you need to make a perfect ghost face with your Cricut. Within Cricut design space you can resize Mickey’s face to be any size you want. If you’re new to Cricut this is a great opportunity to try a SUPER easy Halloween cut project.
In hindsight I wish I had used my Cricut to cut the black felt for the ghost face. It would have been faster and easier to use a Cricut then the method I used (stencil). You get really precise lines which is nice for a project like this- it looks so much more professional. So if you have a Cricut- use our FREE ghost SVG cut files! You’ll thank me later!
EASY Pottery Barn Ghost Dupe DIY
We provide you with a FREE ghost stencil download to try this on your own. We’ve sized it to fit the ghost used in this Halloween craft. If you want it to make the printable stencil larger or smaller you can adjust your setting at print & cut time to make that happen.
Materials:
- Dollar Tree 6 in Styrofoam Cone
- Dollar Tree 4 in Styrofoam Ball
- 26 x 26 in Piece of Fuzzy Material or Sherpa Material
- Dollar Tree Black Felt
- Dollar Tree Decorative Pumpkin
- Hot Glue Gun + Glue Sticks
- Toothpicks or Bamboo Skewers
- Scissors
- Cricut Cutting Machine (optional)
- FREE Ghost Face Stencil File (download at end of tutorial)
How to Make a Sherpa Ghost Step by Step
I hope you love EASY Halloween crafts because we have written step by step directions with photos on how to make the viral, tiktok sherpa ghost. We’ve tried to be as detailed as possible (taking photos as we worked) but if you have any questions please leave a comment at the end of the post and we’ll try to answer it ASAP!
STEP ONE- Glue the Head to the Cone
Using 3 tooth picks, stick them into the top of the flattened cone. Then press the Styrofoam ball on top of the tooth picks and press down but not all the way down. Apply hot glue on top of the cone around the toothpicks and then press the ball all the way down into the glue and toothpicks.
STEP TWO- Glue the Fur To the Body
Do a fitting of the Fuzzy Material material on the styrofoam body of the ghost. Get it exactly where you want it and see how much material you might want to remove or keep. I went to a 26 x 26 inch square. I folded the square and centered it on the styrofoam body so that I could form two ghostly hands holding a small pumpkin.
Make sure everything is nice and even. When you have it where you want it you can add a dab of hot glue to the top of the head to keep the sherpa material in place. If you have greening pins…those will work too…just put 1 or 2 through the Fuzzy Material into top of the head.
My fur was super wrinkly/compressed and I’m sure yours will be too. I threw mine in the dryer for about 10 minutes to get rid of the wrinkles and the fur looked so much better. I highly recommend it!
STEP THREE- Glue the Ghostly Eyes
Using our FREE printable ghost face stencil, cut out two eyes. We’ve also included an optional mouth you can use. If you have a Cricut…we include cutting files. If you want really nice, clean ovals- the cutting machine is the way to go. It gives a really professional look in just a few minutes. You can also resize the ghost face in Cricut Design Space.
When you have your stencil ready, cut out two eyes from black felt. Mock up the position eyes using straight pins. Get them exactly where you want them and then glue each one with hot glue. Glue them one at a time and hold each in place until the glue has cooled.
STEP FOUR- Glue on the Pumpkin
Bring two folds of Fuzzy Material forward. Place the pumpkin in between the folds, like the ghost has hands and is holding the wee pumpkin. Play around with it and see where you want the pumpkin to be and how it’s going to be positioned.
Once you’ve found how you like the pumpkin positioned, place glue on one side of the pumpkin at a time, and press it into the spot in the material where you want the pumpkin to rest. Hold in place until the glue is completely cooled. Repeat with the other side of the pumpkin.
