What is You’ve Been Mugged?
“You’ve Been Mugged” is a fun Christmas game that adds to the excitement of Christmas. The idea is pretty simple: you surprise a friend, coworker or neighbor with a Christmas mug filled with small treats and a special note to let them know they’ve been “mugged.” The best part?
Then they continue the fun by “mugging” others in their neighborhood, at work or within their circle of friends. It’s a fantastic way to spread holiday joy and create a sense of community during this magical time of the year!
How to Play You’ve Been Mugged
1. Gather Your Christmas Surprise:
- Christmas Treats: Choose some festive goodies to surprise your neighbors with. Think candy, package of hot cocoa or coffee, small Christmas themed favors, a Christmas ornament, or Christmas themed baked goods you make yourself. You can find LOTS of inexpensive DIY Christmas Gift Ideas here.
- “You’ve Been Mugged” Printable: That’s where I come in! I’ve designed a set of free printables that includes everything you need to get started. More on that in a moment.
2. Print and Prepare:
- Download our free printable, which includes a “You’ve Been Mugged” sign, a “You’ve Been Mugged” door hangar, printable gift tags or stickers, a set of instructions or rules to pass on, and a fun poem to include with your holiday surprise. You can find the download link below.
- Print the signs, tags and door hangars on to heavy cardstock and trim to size. Print out the instructions/rules onto regular paper to include with your goodies.
3. MUG Your Neighbors, Coworkers, Family or Friends:
- Choose someone who you think would enjoy being mugged and keep the fun going.
- Secretly leave a Christmas treat, the printable sign & door knob hangar on their doorstep. Make sure to do this stealthily—part of the fun is the surprise!
4. Continue the Christmas Cheer:
- The person who receives the Christmas treat and printable will find instructions on how to continue the game. They’ll need to mug someone else, leaving holiday treats and the printable signs behind.
- Watch as the Christmas fun spreads through your neighborhood, workplace or group of friends!
