It’s almost back to school time! I’ve been making regular trips to Target over the past week to check in on the roll out of school supplies. AND….I don’t actually have any kids. I’m just TOTALLY ADDICTED to cool school/office supplies.
There is SO much cute stuff in the school supplies section….and I always try and get in there early before the rush starts so I can grab all that glitters, sparkles and shines before it sells out. AND this year there is A LOT to choose from. All of the folders, binders, pencils and spiral notebooks photographed in this article were found here at Target.
All that said….back to school was on my mind this week and it’s the inspiration for this weeks free printable!
These back to school stickers are great for grade school students, teachers and mom’s alike! They’re super cute, functional stickers to start nailing down the major milestones of the school year. You also might want to check out our FREE Fall Themed Happy Planner Stickers or our FREE Fall Themed Weekly Planners since that time of year is right around the corner!
I love this loopy, feminine script font which I haven’t used before. I’ve been inspired by hand lettering and caligraphy after ordering this super cheap, totally awesome beginners hand lettering book. I’ve been practicing like crazy! But until I perfect it….I’m loving this font!
I also included stickers to remind all the students about brainstorming, writing, reading and math homework. There are also reminders for tests, study time and to-do lists.
These stylized back to school themed stickers will rock any Happy Planner layout and I think they’re totally functional! I printed them out and took some photos for your guys! Check out how cute these back to school stickers turned out!
Note! Variation in color occurs from one printer to another. Your print outs may look slightly different then mine!
I put these free PDF printable sticker sheets together for use on my Happy Planner and I thought there might be some other planner addicts who would enjoy them! After asking Totally Free Printables Group on Facebook I knew I had to share these with the world!
Okay, now I’m going to show you how to print these stickers out at home. You will need to purchase printable sticker paper if you don’t already have some on hand.
Clear Glossy Printable Sticker Paper
White Glossy Printable Sticker Paper
Highly Recommended- Fiskars Straight Line Paper Cutter
Fiskars Fingertip Craft Knife or Scissors
Optional- 1.5 x2.4 “Classic” Box Punch
Being the free printable junkie that I am I have tested several sticker papers that I can wholly recommend for these stickers. Let me tell you, I’ve tested a lot of cheap, crappy sticker paper in my time and I’ve found only two that deserve my trust.
There are several cheapy brands out there but the problems with them are numerous. I’ve experienced massive paper jams, papers labeled as “clear” but they are actually not, smudged ink that never seems to dry and sticker paper that doesn’t even stick!!! What tha’ heck! Hey sticker paper….you had one job to do (be a sticker) and you couldn’t even do that!!?!?
Let me save you the hassle and point you to two different types of great sticker paper. One is this Clear Glossy Printable Sticker Paper which actually is CLEAR. Not kinda clear….but actually clear. This paper is great for printing out stickers for layering purposes. As an example, maybe you want to put a hat and a scarf on an existing dog sticker…this would be a good application of clear sticker paper.
Another tested and trusted paper is this Glossy White Printable Sticker Paper if you want a white, opaque sticker. Maybe you’ve noticed that both of these sticker papers are *glossy* (and this is for good reason). Glossy sticker papers print more true to color whereas matte (non-glossy) sticker papers absorb a ton of ink and the colors can look faded and pixelated. Yuck…nobody wants that!
If you’re a part of the Happy Planner movement you are probably accustomed to using both clear and white stickers in the sticker books. I have a tendency to prefer clear sticker paper because it doesn’t interfere with the grids and lines of my planner in any way. It’s super flexible for planner decorating. It’s really a personal preference….sometimes you want to cover things up and sometimes you don’t!
NOTE! if you have a laser jet printer make sure that you use sticker paper designed specifically for a laser jet. Using inkjet paper in a laser jet may melt the sticker paper. Laser jet printers get hot and may melt any non laser jet sticker paper
You’ll also need to adjust the paper settings on you printer before printing. After pressing the print button go to the setting area. Look at the paper options and choose something along the lines of “matte photo paper” or “other photo paper”. There isn’t a sticker or label printing setting on my computer but if that’s available then choose that (I don’t have that on my software either).
You’ll need to pick a thicker paper setting so that your printer accounts for this thick paper. It will also be sent a message that it’s printing something high quality and will print the stickers slowly like a photo which increases quality.
Obviously you can use plain old scissors to cut out any of these stickers. BUT if you’re OCD like me and want nice, straight lines I highly recommend that you use a straight line paper cutter. They are pretty inexpensive and they really make the difference when cutting the washi tape strips and rectangle shaped day stickers. This really inexpensive Fiskars model is highly rated on Amazon.
I have an older than dinosaurs (and ways about as much as a dinosaur) office sized paper cutter that I use. I found it, unluckily some would say, at Goodwill in the office supply section.
I’ve just recently purchased a Fiskars Fingertip Craft Knife which is way easier to manipulate than traditional x-acto knives. It’s easier to achieve rounded, artistic cutting lines for some of the non-square or non-symmetrical stickers. Here is what they look like in use:
One other option is to use the “classic” style box punch for the rectangular stickers. You can also use the box punch for pictures or cutting out scrapbook paper…so if you decide to invest in one there are some pretty cool applications for them beyond cutting out printable stickers.
We’re providing you with free PDF file downloads which are available in our printables library. If you have a Cricut or Silhouette cutting machine you may want to purchase our ‘ready to use’ transparent cut files (PNG) or JPEGs (PDFs are also included in this purchase). Both options are available below:
