Let’s Check Out Our Mickey Mouse Dollar Tree Ghost DIY!

So like many of you I saw the viral, tiktok dollar tree ghost craft and I thought it was great but I wanted to put my own spin on it and share it with you. In my version, I’ve created a Halloween Mickey Mouse Ghost. His ears stick out from his ghost sheet costume and he’s holding a light up, sparkly jack-o-lantern (also from Dollar Tree).

I can personally attest that EVERYTHING you need is at Dollar Tree. My advice, go now and gather all your supplies because LOTS of Halloween crafters swarm the dollar store for all the cheap Halloween supplies. Things sell out quickly and because the seasonal items are limited in quantity- they sell out early and quickly. I’ve been dollar tree crafting for years and I see it happen every year!

If you’re a regular reader, you know we love Disney Halloween crafts. Last year we showed you how to make the Mickey from Main Street Halloween Pumpkin and the Mickey Mouse Disney Ticket Keepsake to name a few. So you probably won’t be surprised to see this homemade Mickey Mouse Halloween Decor.

How to Make a DIY Mickey Mouse Ghost Step by Step
I hope you love EASY Disney Halloween crafts because we have written step by step directions with photos on how to make the viral, tiktok dollar tree ghost Disney version. We’ve tried to be as detailed as possible (taking photos as we made Mickey Mouse) but if you have any questions please leave a comment at the end of the post and we’ll try to answer it ASAP!

STEP ONE- Remove Ghost Sheet From Styrofoam Ghost Body
Unravel the dollar tree hanging ghost. Lift up the white ghost fabric that is attached to expose the Styrofoam Ghost Body. Using a pair of scissors, cut all the attachments so that the ghost sheet is separated from the ghost body.
My ghost sheet was super wrinkly and I’m sure yours will be too. I threw mine in the dryer for about 10 minutes to get rid of the wrinkles and the sheet looked so much better. I highly recommend it!

STEP TWO- Cut A Slit In The Ghost Body For Paper Towel Holder
Using a sharp kitchen knife with a pointed end- stab the center of the bottom of the ghost body. Make the slit big enough for the dollar tree paper towel holder to fit inside. You’ll want to make the slit about 2-3 inches deep.
Stick the paper towel holder inside the slit. Mine fit pretty snug but if yours doesn’t then you might want to add a large dab of hot glue to the end of the paper towel holder and then stick it inside the slit to secure everything together.

STEP THREE- Fit & Glue the Ghost Sheet
Turn the ghost sheet inside out and then place it on the ghost body with the old ghost face on the back of the head. Move the the ghost sheet around and do a dry fit- make sure you like exactly where it is at because we’ll be gluing it down in the next step.
We’re not going to be using the face that came printed on the sheet- so we’re going to hide it in the back and cover it by gluing a pinch pleat with hot glue. You’ll see we’ve pinched & glued together the old ghost face on the back of the ghost so it’s hidden. When it’s all done the front of the ghost should look like the image below- ready for Mickey’s black felt face.

STEP FOUR- Make Your Mickey Mouse Stencil
Pint out our FREE printable Mickey Mouse stencil onto cardstock or thick paper. Cut out the Mickey Mouse face with a pair of scissors.

STEP FIVE- Make Mickey’s Felt Face
Using a white wax pencil or a piece of white chalk- outline Mickey Mouse’s face onto the black felt. Carefully cut out with a pair of scissors.
If you have a Cricut, it would probably be faster and cleaner to use our Cricut cut files for this step. If I ever have to do this again I will use my Cricut!

STEP SIX- Pin & Dry Fit Mickey’s Face
Using straight pins, lay out Mickey’s felt face. Be sure to look at the stencil for comparison so that you get the spacing right. Using hot glue secure his face to the ghost sheet and body. Remove pins when all the gluing is done.

STEP SEVEN- Paint Mickey’s Ears
Place two, 2 inch Styrofoam balls onto tooth picks. Paint them with a generous coat (or two if needed) of black acrylic paint. The toothpicks making painting and drying easier. You’ll also use the toothpicks to secure the ears to the ghost body in the next step- so don’t throw them away.

STEP EIGHT- Add Mickey’s Ears
Stick the Mickey ears into the Styrofoam head using the toothpicks. Once they are positioned where you like them, use a large dab of hot glue underneath to glue them down. The toothpicks alone won’t hold the ears in for very long without hot glue.

STEP NINE- Bend Arms & Wires for Pumpkin
You’ll need to shape the arms and end of arm wires in such a way that they apply pressure and can be inserted into the dollar tree foam pumpkin. This may take some experimentation/trial and error. You want to get the foam pumpkin centered and balanced so it doesn’t tip forwards or backwards.
If it doesn’t feel secure to you using only pressure and the wires then add some hot glue onto the ends of the wires and then insert them into the foam pumpkin.
I grabbed one of those pumpkin lights from dollar tree as well to put under the ghost sheet- it’s a cool effect that turns this Mickey into a light up ghost!
