Mickey Mouse Craft Ideas: [Easy] Disney Park Ticket Keepsake

We have a fantastic Mickey Mouse craft idea that is perfect for kids of all ages (even the adult sized kids!). It’s a cute little Mickey Mouse pocket keepsake that anyone can make! You can use this to store all those pretty Disney tickets from your trip.

We used the traditional red, black and yellow colors of Mickey Mouse but you could substitute with pink and white polka dots if Minnie Mouse is your jam. This goes together quickly and can be made in bulk for teacher gifts (slide a gift card in the pocket), birthday gifts, birthday party favors and more!

We used a 6 inch embroidery hoop for this Mickey Mouse craft idea but you could go bigger or smaller. A smaller version would be perfect for a Christmas ornament. Make a larger one and you have wall are for a nursery or kids room. Just make sure that your felt will cover the entire hoop. You can buy felt off the bolt at fabric stores for larger projects. Mickey Mouse Craft Ideas: Easy Disney Park Ticket Keepsake

Mickey Mouse Easy Pocket Keepsake Supplies

You can keep all your Disney park visit memories in one place with this cute Mickey Mouse storage pocket craft. It all comes together quick and easy with common craft store supplies. You can even find everything you need here from your local Walmart store craft section.

Materials:

• 6 inch Wood Embroidery Hoop
• Sheet of Felt in Black and Red
• Acrylic Craft Paint in Black & Red
• 2 Yellow Buttons
• Black Embroidery Floss and needle
• Scissors
• White Chalk Pencil (can also use plain chalk or white crayon)
• Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
• Circle Template
• Paint Brush
• Measuring Tape

Mickey Mouse Craft Instructions:

STEP 1: Outline the Mickey Mouse Ears

First we’re going to make the ears for Mickey Mouse. Grab your chalk pencil and circle template and trace two 3 inch diameter circles onto your black felt. If you don’t have a chalk pencil in your sewing stash you can use plain white chalk, a white colored pencil or even a white crayon.

STEP 2: Cut Out the Mickey Mouse Ears

Cut out your two circles with scissors but make your cut inside the lines, so you have a clean finished project with no visible white lines.

STEP 3: Separate the Embroidery Hoops

Loosen the screw at the top of the embroidery hoop and separate the inner and outer embroidery hoops. Lay the red felt on top of the black felt so that 4 inches of black felt is visible at the top and 3 inches of the red felt is visible at the bottom.

STEP 4: Layer and Space the Felt

Lay the red and black felt on top of the inner embroidery hoop. Place the outer embroidery hoop loosely on top of the inner embroidery hoop.  Gently pull both layers of felt from the back to ensure both layers of felt are taught. Tighten the screw at the top of the embroidery hoop to hold the felt in place. 

STEP 5: Remove Excess Felt

Using a pair of scissors, trim all of the excess felt from the back side of the embroidery. Run a thin line of hot glue with a glue gun around the cut edge of the felt (this will secure the felt and keep the pocket from shifting or moving). You can also use liquid craft glue (like Aleen’s) for this project, but you will need to wait for the glue to dry.

STEP 6: Paint the Bottom of the Hoop Red

Using red acrylic, paint the bottom half of the embroidery hoop so that it blends in with the red felt of Mickey’s shorts. Set aside to dry completely. If needed, apply a second coat.

STEP 7: Paint the Top of Hoop Black

Using black acrylic, paint the bottom half of the embroidery hoop so that it blends in with the black felt of Mickey’s body. Set aside to dry completely. If needed, apply a second coat.

STEP 7: Make Buttons Look Real

Grab your black embroidery floss and two yellow buttons for this next step. Take the black floss and thread it several times into the holes of a large yellow button. Secure the floss to the button with a strong knot. Trim away any excess string. Repeat the same process with the second yellow button.

STEP 8: Glue Buttons to Mickey’s Shorts

Using a measuring tape, lay out your two yellow buttons so that they are centered and not too close together. Insert a piece of scrap paper into Mickey’s pocket before this next step (we want to ensure that the hot glue doesn’t seep through the red felt and onto the black which would glue the pocket together permanently). Use a dab of hot glue to attach the yellow buttons to the top edge of the red felt pocket.

STEP 9: Glue Mickey’s Ears to the Hoop

Next, we’ll hot glue Mickey’s ears to the top right and top left of the wooden embroidery hoop. The metal screw should be used as the center point. Use the measuring tape to make sure your ears are equidistant and aren’t too high or too low on the hoop.

STEP 10: Secure Ears to the Back of the Hoop

Turn the embroidery hoop over and secure the ears to the back side of the hoop with more hot glue. If you are going to be giving this as a gift you may want to finish the back side off with a large circle of black felt. This will make the back side look clean, tidy and pro made!

You can place a gift card, photo or memento into the pocket to make it more personal. This is a great craft to make with kids, toddlers and even teenagers. It’s inexpensive to create and make in bulk for fun birthday gifts or party favors.

You could make this smaller or larger just by changing the size of the embroidery hoop used. If you went a little smaller you could make Christmas ornaments by adding a loop of ribbon to the screw at the top. You can change out the felt colors to make different characters (like Minnie Mouse).
