Any of our regular followers know that we recently raised our grain silo.  This was a two year project that warranted a proper celebration.  We had many of our close friends and neighbors over for an outdoor, farm style bar-b-que feast and called it “Silo-bration”.  I wanted to share the lovely parting gift I made for my guests!

I wanted to create a useful, memorable memento of the occasion for those who aren’t living the country life.  There are two essentials for daily living here on the farm and it’s the bandana and the mason jar.  Usually the mason jar is filled with a cool, BPA free beverage.  The bandana has a myriad of uses in a pinch….but my personal favorite is to wet a bandana down with cold water and wrap it around my neck on hot days.

Unlike most party favors or gifts you receive at weddings, parties or showers…these mason jar party favors have usefulness well beyond the day of the event.  Your guests will look back fondly on your event each time they see it.  The uses for the mason jar range from flower vase to button holder and everything in between.  I also created a list of uses for the bandana to place inside the jar (including some uses meant to get a chuckle).  I’m including this list for you to use.  You can even have the mason jar & bandana take the place of beverage cups and napkins during your party.  Well, let’s get started!

SUPPLIES

First, fold all of your bandanas according to the instructions provided above to make the “chef’s hat”.  The beauty of this fold is that the finished product fits perfectly inside of the 32 ounce mason jar.

Can I gush for just a minute about “Hav-A-Hank”?  These bandanas are printed on both sides, 100% cotton and made in the good ole USA.  100% Cotton is the only way to avoid the cheap scratchy polyester you may find in cheaper versions of the classic bandana.  True, you can find cheaper bandanas and that’s probably fine for a kid’s birthday party where usage may be brief.  If this is a gift for a guest or even yourself…go with the best.

The bandanas should look similar to the picture below when folded properly.

Carefully place your folded bandanas inside each jar.  They fit inside perfectly!

There are a few options available to you when it comes to personalizing the guest name label for the mason jar lids:

Next, we’re going to size and print out the AMAZING list of uses for the bandana and insert this list inside the jar.  Feel free to add to or subtract from the list I’ve provided.  It may take a few tries to size the list correctly…but keep in mind you can also fold the list in half.  I used card stock to give the insert some weight.  Cut away any excess paper with a paper cutter or an Exacto knife and straight edge.

Voila!  In only a short amount of time you have created a memorable memento of your special event.  I’d love to see any variations you create or think of!
